    The Centre for Translational Cancer Research welcomes Dr. Phillip Blanchette and Dr. Maria MacDonald to its membership. Dr. Blanchette is a medical oncologist who specializes in breast and lung cancer while Dr. MacDonald is a neuro-oncologist, both in the London Regional Cancer Program at London Health Sciences Centre.

    Saman Maleki, PhD has been awarded $450,000 over 3-years to study "The role of the gut microbiome in conferring sensitivity or resistance to systemic therapy in pancreatic cancer" through the Weston Family Microbiome Initiative Grant.

  • Member receives Robert L. Fine Cancer Research Foundation Grant

    Pete Ferguson, PhD Adjunct Professor in Oncology, has been awarded a research grant of $79,112 from the Robert L. Fine Cancer Research Foundation for his project entitled "Targeting DNA repair and the LIF-LIFR axis to inhibit growth of pancreatic adenocarcinoma". Co-authors are Jim Koropatnick, PhD and Dr. Mark Vincent.

  • Members receive CIHR Funding

    Members Dr. Richard Kim, Dr. Glenn Bauman, Dr. Stephen Welch and Dr. Eric Winquist received approval for CIHR funding of $1,995,001 over 4-years for their project entitled "Integrated Precision Medicine Technology and Approach for Optimal Drug Therapy for Canadians".

  • Member receives AMOSO Grant Funding

    Dr. Daniel Breadner’s AMOSO grant application has been chosen to receive total funding of $130,000 over 3-year. Dr. Breadner’s project is entitled “Modulation of the tumour immune microenvironment with neoadjuvant stereotactic ablative radiotherapy in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (ANSR-PDAC)”.

  • Dr. Frank Prato celebrates 45 years of service

    Congratulations to Frank Prato, PhD for 45 years of medical imaging ingenuity. Dr. Prato has dedicated his career to the advancement of medical imaging and is one of this year's longest serving recipients. Dr. Prato is a visionary who was instrumental in acquiring Canada's first whole body PET/MRI for Lawson and St.Joseph's Hospital. He was also the main influencer in bringing the first MRI machine into Canada in 1982.

  • Member receives Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Grant

    Dr. Ana Lohmann has been awarded $400K from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to support her research as part of a larger phase 3 clinical trial. Dr. Lohmann's research focuses on the use of liquid biopsy, a blood test that looks for biomarkers that indicate the presence of cancer cells in the body.

  • Fenster Translational Lab to receive $2.65M in provincial funding

    Medical Biophysicist Aaron Fenster is getting $2.65Million for his imaging research lab through the Ontario Research Fund - Research Excellence as announced during a visit from Colleges and Universities Minister Jill Dunlop.   • Member awarded New Frontiers in Research Fund Competition

    Leonard Luyt, PhD along with Justin Hicks, PhD (Imaging) and Dr. Shehzad Ali (Epidemiology) were awarded $249,900 for their research assessing barriers to access among rural and remote Canadian communities to nuclear molecular imaging technology for diagnosis and study of dementia

  • Lawson Internal Research Fund (IRF)

    Lawson Health Research Institute announced the results of the 2021 Internal Research Fund Spring Competition. Dr. Matthew Cecchini, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine receives $15,000 for his research entitled "TMB morphology signature as novel marker of response to immunotherapy in lung cancer. Dr. Qi Zhang's trainee, Carolyn Twible, also from the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, receives $15,000 to study "Characterizing the hippocampal dentate gyrus involvement in temporal lobe epilepsy".

    Elizabeth Gillies, PhD., a professor in the Department of Chemistry & Chemical and Biochemical Engineering was given this country's highest research honours and named a Canada Research Chair (NSERC). Dr. Gilles researches polymeric biomaterials and their immense potential to improve treatments for many diseases.

Dr. Allan was recognized for going above and beyond supervisory expectations and for giving of her time and extra effort to ensure a successful experience for her postdoctoral scholars.

    Paula J. Foster, PhD., Professor in the Department of Medical Biophysics was awarded a Senior Fellowship from International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine in recognition of her achievements in cellular and molecular imaging. She is only one of 10 Canadians to ever receive this honour.

Dr. Bauman is a leading international expert in multi-modality image-guided radiotherapy and cancer imaging.     Nathalie Berube, PhD, Gregory Dekaban, PhD and Qi Zhang, PhD. are recipients of the Collaborative Research Seed Grant program from Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. CRSG provides seed funding for the formation and development of new interdisciplinary and collaborative research teams. The intent is to promote new collaborations that build on different scientific and scholarly backgrounds, to facilitate breakthroughs in solving research questions in a collaborative manner, and to position the School's researchers to successfully respond to targeted requests for proposals from Tri-Council or other funding agencies.     Lawson Health Research Institute was awarded over $2 million in federal funding for a project led by Jonathan Thiessen, PhD. and team focusing on two unique medical imaging systems designed to give unparalleled insight into brain function and disease. The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, announced more than $518 million in research infrastructure support through the Canada Foundation for Innovation.
