2018 Centre for Translational Cancer Research (CTCR) Travel Awards
The Centre for Translational Cancer Research (CTCR) is pleased to offer competitive Travel Awards for graduate students, residents, and clinical and postdoctoral fellows working in the area of translational cancer research. These awards are intended to enhance the education and training of trainees engaged in translational cancer research. A total of 5 prizes with a value of $1000.00 each will be available. - Opening remarks by special guests, including Mr. Kirk Baines who presented the London Health Sciences Foundation Campaign Celebration video of its achievements.
- Special presentation by Dr. Alison Allan in
honour of Dr. Ann Chambers on the momentous occasion of her retirement. Dr. Chambers was awarded her Professor Emeritus certificate from Western University and the Department of Oncology Lifetime Achievement Award, whichwere accepted on her behalf by her son Mr. Ben Shirley. - 8 informative and engaging oral presentations of
the substantial research taking place in our laboratories. - An outstanding keynote lecture by Dr. Suresh Senan on, “Oligometastatic disease, the immune system
and image-guided radiotherapy - A new paradigm in personalized medicine.” - Innovative research poster sessions, with over 75 abstracts submitted and presented including posters from senior high school students in the PEL academic co-operative education program.
- Facilitated networking sessions over lunch.
- Social media engagement using the hashtags #ONCRESEARCHDAY and #LndOntOncology
- An afternoon award ceremony with hot appetizers and cocktails to celebrate the day and our award winners.

Colleagues Collaborate Networking Night Recap - February 2018
On February 2, 2018, cancer researchers, scientists, physicians, learners and supporters from across London Health Sciences Centre, Robarts, Lawson Health Research Institute, Western University, and the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry joined forces at our annual collaboration event.
Thank you to Dr. Woods for opening our event and for sharing his personalized his connection to
Translational Cancer Research and Treatment. Dr. Woods shared a snapshot of his vision for LHSC as a
CLINICAL CARE + RESEARCH + EDUCATION
Sincere gratitude to Dr. Mick Bhatia from McMaster University for joining our event and his inspiring keynote address and passion for cancer research. Many exciting takeaways from his TED-style presentation including his 3-ring model of successful translational research.
Creative designs of a futuristic staff lounge, called the STAFF THINK TANK to help further promote collaborations. Collaboration Sessions were held to explore half-baked ideas through brainstorming and discussion. Table hosts to briefly explain their ideas or ongoing projects. The purpose of this session was to help move these half-baked ideas forward in London.
ESMO Promoting Research in London to foster Networking Opportunities with other Investigators around the World

This past summer, the Department of Medical Oncology was approached by ESMO (European Society for Medical Oncology) to participate in the production of a video (~5 min length) to be broadcast throughout the ESMO Congress meeting in Munich, Germany this past October. Only 20 centres in the world were selected to promoted their work at ESMO. The primary purpose of this video is to promote research in London and foster networking opportunities with other investigators around the world.Fall 2018 CTCR Travel Award Recipients
