Writing Instruction
Led by Lorelei Lingard, PhD, CERI has become known internationally for its Writing Masterclass – an intensive, immersive experience that aims to improve the writing skills of academics and researchers.
In early 2020, our team of Lorelei Lingard, Chris Watling, Mark Goldszmidt, and Sayra Cristancho presented a well-received four-day writing masterclass in Chicago to a group of 25 pediatricians. Soon after, the pandemic struck and we decided to re-think and re-configure our entire curriculum to offer a meaningful virtual version of the Masterclass. These efforts culminated in our first-ever virtual masterclass in early 2021, with 25 participants from Canada, the USA, and Europe.
Our refreshed approach included spreading out the Masterclass through four consecutive weeks, increasing our commitment to personalized coaching through weekly coaching sessions for each participant, and incorporating novel instructional approaches such as flipped classrooms. Evaluations were stellar, and we plan to go forward post-pandemic with a mix of in-person and virtual masterclasses, as the value of the virtual approach in reaching new audiences is clear.
Recognizing our commitment to support innovators as well as researchers, CERI also ran a three-day masterclass in writing innovations for publication, which was sponsored by a grant from PSI and took place in February, 2020.
