Volunteer Opportunity - Violence Prevention Program
Violence Prevention Program Volunteer Training hosted by Western Equity and Human Rights Services:
Western student volunteers are paired up (you can request your partner) to facilitate discussion in a high school classroom for one period.
This program helps high school students gain a better understanding on the topics of consent and sexual violence, and learn how to be an upstander. A manual will be provided to all volunteers at the training session, guiding and explaining all activities. In addition to the training session, you are asked to participate in at least two facilitations. The time commitment for one facilitation is between 2.5-4 hours depending on the location of the school. Facilitations will typically take place in the mornings.
Volunteers can choose from a number of different dates spread out over the month of October and early November. A bus will be provided for transportation of the volunteers from Western to the high school and back.
The training sessions will be as follows:
- Sun. Oct 1, 12:00 - 3:00 pm, UCC 56
- Wed. Oct 4, 5:00 - 8:00 pm, SSC 3024
Students only have to attend ONE training session. Pizza and refreshments will be provided!
