It was forty years ago when Alan Bocking and Margaret Chan studied medicine at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry. On Thursday 29th May, their paths came together at the Prime Minister’s Summit on “Saving every woman every child” in Toronto. They celebrated the announcement of $3.5 billion towards improving the health of mothers and children.

Study shows how streptococcal bacteria can be used to fight colon cancer

Researchers at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry have shown how the bacteria primarily responsible for causing strep throat can be used to fight colon cancer. By engineering a streptococcal bacterial toxin to attach itself to tumour cells, they are forcing the immune system to recognize and attack the cancer.

Schulich Medicine's new two year subspecialty residency in pain medicine will train experts in the treatment and rehabilitation from acute, chronic and cancer pain conditions. Dr. Pat Morley-Forster has been working for the last seven years to find ways to better train physicians to treat chronic pain, a condition that currently affects one in five Canadians.
