Movember grants announced
November has become known as the month when men grow mustaches to raise funds for prostate cancer and other men’s health issues. Movember and Prostate Cancer Canada have just announced the 2014 recipients of research grants.
Dr. Glenn Bauman, the chair of the Department of Oncology is a co-investigator in a Movember Team Grant valued at almost $5 million, which will be used to develop novel diagnostic markers for early prostate cancer.
Three Movember Discovery Grants have been awarded to researchers at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry. Mansour Haeryfar of Microbiology and Immunology has received just over $188,000, Shawn Li of Biochemistry, Oncology and Pediatrics has received $187,000 and Hon Leong of the Department of Surgery has received $180,000 for prostate cancer projects. The grants are over two years, starting July first. In total 23 Discovery Grants were awarded totaling almost five million dollars.
