BIOSKETCH
Dr. Izawa graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Western University in 1994 and subsequently completed his Urology Residency at Western University. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1999. He completed a basic science research and clinical fellowship as a McLaughlin Fellow in Urologic Oncology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in 2001. Dr. Izawa is a Professor of Surgery, Oncology and Pathology at Western University. His clinical practice primarily involves the management of urologic malignancies. He was the Program Director for the Urology Residency Program at UWO from 2005 to 2009. He was the Program Director for the Society of Urologic Oncology Fellowship at Western University from 2011-2018. He sits on an Editorial Board and serves as a reviewer for 14 urology journals. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles and 8 book chapters. He has been the principle investigator or collaborator in receiving over $1,000,000 in research grants in bladder, prostate and kidney cancer. Dr. Izawa is an Associate Scientist at the Lawson Health Research Institute an executive member of Bladder Cancer Canada.
