Western Urology at WCE 2017
Western Urology Program Well Represented at 2017 World Congress of Endourology Meeting in Vancouver, BC
The 35th World Congress of Endourology was held in Vancouver, BC from September 12-16, 2017 only the 2nd time this international scientific gathering has been held in Canada. The Western Urology program was actively involved in the planning of this important meeting and clinical faculty, basic science researchers and fellows had major roles in the scientific program. Some highlights included:
- John Denstedt entered his last year of Treasurer of the Endourological Society and was involved in the meeting as a moderator and instructional course participant
- Hassan Razvi continues to serve as member of the board of the Endourological Society and was the meeting Scientific Co-Chair
- Stephen Pautler served as a plenary speaker and debated the surgical treatment options of low risk kidney cancer
- Joseph Chin served as instructional course participant on the topic of focal prostate therapies
- Jeremy Burton served as a plenary speaker and reviewed the mechanistic role of urinary infection and the development of kidney stones
- Sumit Dave served as an instructional course participant on the topic of pediatric endourology
- Blayne Welk participated in a plenary discussion on the management of pelvic mesh complications
- AbdulAziz Al-Athel presented a poster on our research into the effects of SWL on bacterial viability in an in vitro stone model
- PhD Student Kait Al presented a poster on our research findings evaluating the role of probiotics on gut oxalobacter and as a potential strategy for calcium oxalate stone prevention
- Masters of Surgery Student Aymon Ali presented 2 posters describing the use of the drosophila fly model as a high throughput system to assess novel preventative medical therapies
