Saumik Biswas successfully defended his PhD thesis, “Implications of long non-coding RNAs in the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy: a novel epigenetic paradigm.” He is also participating in Western’s Medical Innovation Fellowship program.
Robert Bartha, PhD, was appointed Acting Director, Strategy and Scientific Integration at Robarts Research Institute.
Nicole Campbell, PhD, was appointed Director of Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, effective of September 1. She will be responsible for overseeing both the undergraduate and graduate level programs.
Kevin Chung, PhD Candidate, was awarded “Best in Physics” recognition as a top five abstract in the Imaging track at the Joint AAPM COMP Meeting held virtually in July.
Cheryl Forchuk, PhD, was awarded the 2020 Hellmuth Prize for Achievement in Research.
Dr. Vladimir Hachinksi received the F.N.G. Starr Award from the Canadian Medical Association, recognizing his achievements in innovative stroke intervention and treatment.
Farzad Asadi Jomnani successfully defended his PhD thesis, “Regulation of Glucagon Secretion and Trafficking by Proteins in the Glucagon Interactome.”
Dr. Penny MacDonald was renewed as the Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Neuroscience and Neuroimaging.
Jonathan Michaels, PhD, Postdoctoral Scholar, was awarded a 2020 Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Dr. Michelle Mottola was appointed Chair of the Division of Maternal, Fetal and Newborn Health and the Children’s Health Research Institute.
Adam Paish successfully defended his PhD thesis focused on a clinically representative animal model of hip hemiarthroplasty.
Silvia Penuela, PhD, and Matthew Teeter, PhD, were named recipients of Petro-Canada Young Innovator Awards.
Marco Prado, PhD, Gilles Lajoie, PhD, and Lauren Flynn, PhD, received funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation’s John R. Evans Leaders Fund.
Jessica Prodger, PhD, was appointed Co-Director of the Collaborative Graduate Program in Global Health Systems at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry.
Shawn Whitehead, PhD, was awarded an Alzheimer Foundation London and Middlesex Premier Research Grant to study brain inflammation as a potential indicator of cognitive impairment.
Twelve graduate trainees and a new alumna are recipients of the 2020 Internal Graduate Awards.
