Dr. Dervla Connaughton has been appointed as the inaugural Eugen Drewlo Chair in Kidney Research and Innovation.
Paula Foster, PhD, published the first paper based on research using the new Magnetic Particle Imaging system housed at Robarts Research Institute.
Yohan Kim from the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine successfully defended his PhD thesis, “Discovery of Novel Mechanisms Regulating Cancer Extravasation in the Chorioallantoic Membrane Model.” He was supervised by Zia Khan, PhD, and Chandan Chakraborty, PhD.
Jina Kum, PhD Candidate, was re-elected as the President of the Society of Graduate Students (SOGS).
Xiaoyun Ji from the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine successfully defended her MSc thesis, “Junctophilin-2 Protects Cardiomyocytes against Palmitate-induced Injury.” She was supervised by Tianqing Peng, PhD, and Douglas Jones, PhD.
Ornela Kljakic, PhD Candidate, was awarded the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers from the Governor General of Canada. She was acknowledged for eight years of volunteer work with Frontier College, a national organization focused on literacy.
Dr. Peeyush Lala received the 2020 Henry Gray Scientific Achievement Award from the American Association for Anatomy.
Lachlan McLean from the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine successfully defended his MSc thesis, “Evaluating the Utility of Protein Biomarker, S100A7, and Diagnostic Test, Straticyte, in Predicting the Progression of Oral Dysplasia.” He was supervised by Mark Darling.
Dr. Saverio Stranges was elected Vice President for the European Public Health Association’s Chronic Diseases section, which aims to increase and spread knowledge on chronic disease control.
