Dr. Paul Adams, Professor in the Department of Medicine, was honoured with the Marcel Simon Award, an international prize for excellence in the research of genetic hemochromatosis. Dr. Adams has also been selected as the recipient of the 2019 CASL-CLF Visiting Professorship. This award is granted by the Canadian Association for the Study of the Liver and the Canadian Liver Foundation.
Dr. Robert Petrella has been appointed as Professor and Head (Chair) of the Department of Family Practice at the University of British Columbia, effective October 15, 2019. He will continue to lead the Lifestyle Research Team and research program in the Centre for Studies in Family Medicine.
Anish Engineer, PhD Candidate with the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, received a publication award at the Canadian Society of Pharmacology & Therapeutics' Annual Meeting. He was recognized for his publication in the Journal of the American Heart Association.
Zain Awamleh, Nileeka Balasuriya and Safee Mian from the Department of Biochemistry successfully defended their PhD theses.
Aisha Freeman, Thomas Hamilton, Rosan Kenana, and David Wright from the Department of Biochemistry received NSERC Graduate Scholarships.
James Denstedt, MD Candidate, James Armstrong, MD/PhD Candidate and Vinay Kansal received awards at the Canadian Ophthalmological Society's Annual Meeting.
Dr. Bertha Garcia has been appointed as Acting Vice Dean & Director, Dentistry.
Kathy Speechley, PhD, was recognized as the 2019 Helping Out People with Epilepsy (H.O.P.E.) recipient by Epilepsy Southwestern Ontario. As an epilepsy researcher, champion, donor and advocate, she is committed to supporting families with epilepsy.
