Dr. Robert Hegele received the 2018 Dr. Herald N. Segall Award of Merit from the Canadian Cardiovascular Society. The Award recognizes his tremendous participation for the betterment of cardiovascular health in Canadians by advocating for the prevention of cardiovascular disease and the promotion of cardiovascular health in Canadians. Dr. Hegele also recently received the Laureate Award for Research Excellence from the American College of Physicians (ACP), Ontario Chapter.

The Summer Research Training Program (SRTP) announced the winners of the 2018 SRTP awards:
- The Dr. Cindy M Hutnik Award was given to Claire Browne for her project titled, "Cyclic Peptides Targeting RHAMM as Cancer Therapeutics.”
- Chloe Gui was awarded the Dr. L. DeWitt Wilcox Award for her project titled, "Optimizing Image Guidance Techniques for the Resection of Brain Tumors."

The Dr. Glen S. Wither Award for Research, given for outstanding participation in SRTP, was awarded to Logan Van Nynatten for his project titled, "Elucidating Immunoregulatory Pathways Associated with HIV-1 Disease Progression.”
Asher Mendelson was awarded the Canadian Critical Care Forum (CCCF) Outstanding Trainee Abstract Award for his work entitled, “Dynamic tracking of microvascular hemoglobin content in skeletal muscle of ICU patients with a custom near-infrared spectroscopy system.”
Dr. Jorge Burneo was named one of TD’s 10 Most Influential Hispanic Canadians. The initiative recognizes community members from across Canada. Read the complete announcement
