Biosketch
Dr. Viana completed an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry with a minor in Business Administration from McMaster University in 1999, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from McGill University in 2002. Dr. Viana worked as an OT at the University Health Network at the Toronto Western in SCI, Acute Neurology/Neurosurgery and General Internal Medicine before completing his undergraduate medicine degree at Western University in 2008, followed by a residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Western University in 2013. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Dr. Viana is a consultant Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Specialist in the Amputee and Stroke rehabilitation programs at Parkwood Hospital and in the Chronic Pain program at the St. Joseph’s Pain Clinic. Dr. Viana is also certified by the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists and holds the designation of CSCN Diplomate (EMG) and is an electromyography consultant at St. Joseph’s Health Care, Mount Hope site.
Dr. Viana also has an interest in medical education and has received a Certificate in Health Professions Education from Maastricht University.
Research
Dr. Viana’s research interests focus primarily on his clinical practice in stroke and amputee rehabilitation as well as an expanding focus on chronic pain and medical education.
