Visiting Resident and Off-Service Electives
EMG Rotation
This is an elective that is very well regarded and sought after by residents in other physiatry programs. It is an elective that involves electrodiagnostic and neuromuscular evaluations and is run conjointly through PMR and Neurology.
Other Rotations
We routinely take elective residents from other programs at Western university. Neurology and Orthopedic residents in their PGY-2 year routinely do elective rotations with us. We also frequently have elective residents from geriatric medicine in their PGY-4/5 years or from family medicine in their PGY-2 year. These rotations tend to be primarily inpatient-based with some outpatient exposure. We attempt to place the residents into the most suitable rotation for their specialty. For instance, we attempt to expose orthopedic residents to the inpatient MSK unit and outpatient amputee rehab, Spinal Cord Injury rehab and electrodiagnostic medicine. We attempt to expose neurology residents to rehabilitation in stroke, spinal cord and brain injury.
We also entertain requests from visiting electives from Physiatry residents from other Canadian Medical Schools within the various core areas of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
