Biosketch

Dr. Macaluso completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology prior to completing undergraduate medicine at Western (2007). He went on to complete residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Western (2012). He is currently an Associate Professor, and the Post-Graduate Residency Program Director in the Department of PM&R and a consultant physiatrist on the Stroke and MSK rehabilitation units at Parkwood Hospital. He has outpatient clinics at Parkwood, Mount Hope (SJHC), and the Fowler Kennedy Sports Medicine Clinic.

Dr. Macaluso is certified by the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists, having obtained designation of CSCN Diplomate (EMG), and he is an electromyography consultant at both St. Joseph’s Health Care, and the Fowler Kennedy Sports Medicine Clinic. He also has a special interest in Sports Medicine (Dip. Sport Med, CASEM) having provided medical coverage for Team Canada at national and international levels. Through his partnership with the Fowler Kennedy Sports Medicine Clinic he sees athletes of all skill levels, including those with disabilities participating in parasport.

Dr. Macaluso is a member of the Canadian Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (CAPMR), and Canadian Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine (CASEM), and serves as a reviewer for the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Academics

Dr. Macaluso has served as the post-graduate Program Director for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and has been involved in many areas of research presenting invited lectures at several national and international conferences. Recently, he has been in involved in the design of continuing medical education (CME) materials for Chronic Pain and Stroke. His current endeavors include involvement in formation of Physical Activity guidelines and resources for patients with impairments, and the design and implementation of evidence-based resources for the management of musculoskeletal disorders, as well as a web-based musculoskeletal educational resource for medical trainees: www.mskmedicine.com.
