2021: year of the Pandemic II

Dear Pathology staff if only it were not true
But my poem is titled year of the Pandemic 2
Just when we thought we could take no more
We were hit with waves 2, 3 and even 4
The year looks like it is going to go out with a bang
Now that Omicron has joined the gang
Without a mask we now feel really naked
And ritual handwashing has become almost sacred
Luckily the COVID vaccine came really fast
But now we need a booster because they may not last
A shout out to our Microbiology team
Who did more COVID tests than we could ever dream
Subrata ended his 11 long years as chair and chief
Now he can relax, much to his relief
We now welcome David to this role
And we will support him to reach his every goal
Another major event did transpire
When the two Lisa’s did retire
CCO had so much money to spend
That biomarker requests never seemed to end
There were more consults and molecular tests than we could abide
But the clerical staff took it all in their stride
It seemed like the specimen backlog we could never assail
But our Gross room staff finally did prevail
Things in the morgue were equally tough
But the autopsy team showed they were made of the right stuff
In Histology technologists were in short supply
But they just kept on cutting, with only an occasional sigh
So to all of you Happy Holidays and let us decree
There will be no year of the Pandemic 3
