Taking on the Three-Minute Challenge

An 80,000-word PhD thesis would take about nine hours to present. You have only three minutes. Are you up for the challenge?

From breast cancer metastasis to diabetic complications, graduate trainees showcased their research communication skills at the 2019 Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) Faculty Heat on February 13.  Presenting their research and its impact to a panel of non-specialist judges, participants were evaluated on communication, comprehension and engagement.

"The 3MT competition is a great opportunity for graduate students to not only showcase their research to the public, but also hone their skills in communicating the topic in an understandable way."

"The 3MT competition is a great opportunity for graduate students to not only showcase their research to the public, but also hone their skills in communicating the topic in an understandable way," said Susanne Schmid, PhD, Associate Dean, Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies. "Research at the University is mostly funded by the public, therefore it is very important for scientists to be able to communicate the scope of their research and its impact on human health."

Congratulations to the 15 Schulich Medicine & Dentistry participants. Thank you for sharing your work with the Western community.
