New Study Permit Cap Announcement
In light of the Canadian government’s ongoing changes to the country’s immigration policies, and the concomitant impact on our graduate programs here at Western, the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) has created a new web page: Changes to Canadian Study Permit Policies.

This page will now act as a dedicated space (the “gold standard”) for all graduate program-related study permit information moving forward. We have also included a link to the new Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) "processing times" tool so applicants can get a better sense of how long it may take to process their study permit application. This page will be updated on an ongoing basis as we continue to receive new information in collaboration with Western International and our other partners across campus.

The Department cannot pre-evaluate copies of transcripts to ascertain if you should apply to our program. A complete application must be submitted for review.

Complete the Western on-line application, and include the documents/information listed below. Please note: The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine does not require a GRE be submitted with an application to the program.

  • Transcripts: from all postsecondary institutions attended. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable for your initial application; however, our School of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies may request official transcripts for their review. Additional details here.

  • Supplemental questions:
  • For question 7, What are your research interests and who are the potential supervisors you would like to work with?, please refer to the list of active graduate supervisors.
  • For each question, there is a 1,000-character limit which includes spaces and punctuation.
  • Letters of reference: Two, academic preferred. Additional details here.

  • English language proficiency requirements: Full details available here

  • Application fee: $Cdn 150.00

Next Steps

Once Western receives your completed application and payment, an automated email will be sent to you confirming receipt of the completed application. The School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies will complete a preliminary assessment of your application to calculate an admission average, establish an academic degree basis for your potential admission and determine any additional documentation required by Western should you receive an offer of admission. After your application passes through the preliminary assessment phase an email will be sent to you confirming your application is now in the hands of the program to which you are applying.

Once your application has been released to the program it will be reviewed as soon as possible. This process may take from 1-14 business days.  If your application is approved by the program, it will be made available to our graduate faculty. You are encouraged to browse the research interests of our faculty and contact those whose research is of interest after you have received confirmation from us that your complete application has been received.

A full list of our graduate supervisors is available here.
