London Imaging Discovery Day (LIDD) 2018
The Department of Medical Imaging presents the
13th Annual London Imaging Discovery Day
THURSDAY, JUNE 14, 2018

This year we are changing the format of LIDD in order to increase awareness of the great academic work that is being undertaken in our Institutions (City-Wide Department of Medical Imaging, Lawson and Robarts and other Research Institutes across London and Western). Our hope is that the increase in awareness will increase the collaboration among our multi-disciplinary teams.
We are broadening the abstract submission criteria to include topics on scientific innovations, education innovation, quality improvement and patient safety (outcomes). We encourage abstracts from all of our learners - basic scientists, radiologists, nuclear medicine, technologists, and nurses, clerical and administrative.
All accepted abstracts will result in an oral presentation (presented in the auditorium or in the poster session) of 8 mins + 2 mins for questions. The "electronic poster session" will include 6 concurrent themes relevant to scientific innovations, educational innovation, quality improvement and patient safety (outcomes).
Keynote Speakers (Co-Presenters):
Dr. David Jaffray
Senior Scientist, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre
Director, Research Institute, Techna Institute for the Advancement of Technology for Health (Techna)
Dr. Jaffray holds the Fidani Chair in Radiation Physics and is a principal in the STTARR Innovation Centre. He is also the Director of the TECHNA Institute and a Senior Scientist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Dr. Jaffray is a Professor in the Departments of Radiation Oncology, Medical Biophysics, and Institute for Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto. He has numerous patents and over 200 peer-reviewed publications. His current research interests focus on the development of imaging technologies and methods with a focus on image-guided interventions, including radiation therapy and surgery.
Dr. Heidi Schmidt
Professor, Department of Radiology, University of Toronto
Interim Radiologist-in-Chief, Joint Department of Medical Imaging, University Health Network, Sinai Health System and Women's College Hospital
Dr. Schmidt is Professor of Radiology at the University of Toronto, and the interim radiologist-in-chief of the Joint Department of Medical Imaging (JDMI) at the University Health Network, Sinai Health System and Women’s College Hospital. Dr. Schmidt is a staff radiologist in the cardiothoracic division in the Joint Department of Medical Imaging. For more than 10 years, from 2007-2018, Dr. Schmidt was the Site Director for Medical Imaging at Women’s College Hospital. For 6 years, she was also the head of the chest section in JDMI, before she became head of the cardiothoracic division in March 2016. In February this year she was appointed as interim radiologist-in-chief. Her research focuses on lung cancer screening using low dose CT. In 2003, Dr. Schmidt started the Lung Cancer Screening Study at Princess Margaret in Toronto as part of the International Early Lung Cancer Action Program (I-ELCAP), and she is the local Principal Investigator of the Pan-Canadian Early Lung Cancer Detection Study. More than 5000 individuals have been screened under her supervision. Since early 2017, she is the Radiology Quality Lead of the High Risk Lung Cancer Screening at Cancer Care Ontario.
