This study prioritized topics for developing future global surgery guidelines while placing the evidence base within low- and middle- income countries (LMICs), challenges and unique considerations within LMIC healthcare systems as a key component of the prioritization process. Prevention of surgical-site infection following abdominal surgery was the highest ranked priority, leading to the development of a global surgery guideline on the topic.
