Why did you decide to pursue medical school?

To help people. Having personally experienced the health care system from the patient perspective, I recognized the tremendous impact that doctors have on the lives of individuals and I wanted contribute to that.

What was your academic or life journey to applying to medical school?

I completed an undergraduate degree at the University of Ottawa and then pursued a masters degree in epidemiology. I applied for the MD program a few years following the completion of my masters degree.

What do you love about Schulich Medicine?

The students. Everyone is extremely helpful and kind. There is very little competition, but rather collaboration and cooperation.

What organizations or extracurricular activities are you involved in through medical school?

Black Medical Student Association, RxLit Book Club, Intramural Dodgeball, Big Sib/Little Sib

What has your experiential learning been like thus far?

It has been extremely informative and enjoyable.

Why did you become a Student Ambassador?

To help potential students acclimate to medical school. It was a difficult transition for me and I learned a lot. I hope that I can impart some of that knowledge to anyone who may need it.

What do you like to do for fun?

Read, crochet, and sew. I also enjoy going to the gym and gardening.

What is your favourite local attraction, activity or restaurant?

Local hiking trails.

Do you have a personal motto or favourite quote?

“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” - Audre Lorde

Who do you admire and why?

Audre Lorde. Despite the endless obstacles she had in front of her, she remained strong, kind, and empathetic.

What is your advice for prospective applicants?

There is so much help available, so don't be afraid to ask for it.
