Why did you decide to pursue medical school?

Over the course of my undergraduate degree, I came to find that pursuing an MD was the right choice for me because it provides opportunities for some of my greatest career ambitions: working in a team, health advocacy, patient education and promoting health literacy, and empowering others to take ownership of their wellbeing.

What was your academic or life journey to applying to medical school?

After high school, I studied Immunology, Human Biology, and Buddhist Psychology & Mental Health at the University of Toronto. Following my personal interests in my studies offered me a unique academic experience and I'm so grateful I was able to pursue a diverse course of study. If you need a sign to study what you love: I find myself relying on what I learned about Buddhist psychology and mental health in medicine far more than I ever anticipated.

What organizations or extracurricular activities are you involved in through medical school?

One of the highlights of my time at Schulich Medicine has been Tachycardia, our annual charity musical. I've been part of the musical every year and I've loved getting to know other students through the musical. I also had the opportunity to co-found Schulich Dancers, our school's dance group. I've also been part of the Women's Health Interest Group, the Student Support Team, Teddy Bear Hospital , Schulich Reviews, and was the Women in Surgery executive on the Surgery Interest Group, to name a few! No matter your interests, there's an extracurricular for you!

What do you like to do for fun?

I'm a huge advocate that hobbies are an absolute necessity for a career in medicine. I've been a lifelong dancer and continue to dance at a local ballet studio and with Schulich Dancers. I love all forms of activity - swimming, running, biking, you name it! But more mindful activities like meditation, yoga, hiking, and baking are all important to me as well.

Where is your favourite campus study location?

For everyday studying, the Medical Sciences study room and Weldon library never fail, especially when the weather's nice and you can sit outside. But for serious crunch-time studying, there is nowhere better than the Law Library.

What is your advice for prospective applicants?

Everything will be okay in the end. When you're working towards applying to the MD Program, everything can feel a little (or a lot) stressful. In hindsight, I can say with confidence that everything will happen when it's meant to happen. Take a deep breath - you're doing everything right.
