Q&A with Baithat

"We are all on different journeys, starting at different places. Focus on what you are doing. Don't waste your time comparing your journey to someone else's. Sometimes you are ahead, and sometimes you are behind. There is no race. Just keep going and never give up."

What was your academic or life journey to applying to medical school?

I completed both my undergraduate and master's degrees in Kinesiology and Health Science at York University. After completing my master's, I worked in clinical research with ALS patients before starting medical school.

What do you love about Schulich Medicine?

My favourite part is the people! My classmates are amazing – they are friendly and always eager to help. Schulich Medicine has a great sense of camaraderie, making it feel like a large, supportive family.

Why did you become a Student Ambassador?

I became a student ambassador because I am passionate about supporting underrepresented applicants through the admissions process. Having personally experienced the challenges and uncertainties that accompany the application journey, I understand the importance of having empathetic support along the way.

I am excited about the opportunity to ease the stress and anxiety that often accompany the application process. I want to be a reassuring presence for prospective students, answering their questions, addressing their concerns, and providing them with the information and support they need to navigate this pivotal moment in their academic journey.

What do you like to do for fun?

I love listening to podcasts! Whether I am on a commute or doing chores around the house, I love listening to different topics like medicine, basketball, and current events. I also love cooking, baking, hiking, and playing basketball.

What is your advice for prospective applicants?

We are all on different journeys, starting at different places. Focus on what you are doing. Don't waste your time comparing your journey to someone else's. Sometimes you are ahead, and sometimes you are behind. There is no race. Just keep going and never give up.
