What was your academic or life journey to applying to medical school?

I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Ottawa. In second year, I applied to the Translational and Molecular Medicine Program, a third and fourth-year program at uOttawa. Through this program, I gained hands-on experience in biomedical research and honed my skills in science communication.

What organizations or extracurricular activities are you involved in through medical school?

Schulich Medicine offers so many opportunities, I've discovered clubs and volunteer organizations that fit all my interests! MedReach provides mentorship and healthcare discovery opportunities to high school students, and Teddy Bear Hospital send medical students into primary school classrooms to educate students about doctor's visits. I am also continuing my passion for dance by teaching for the Schulich dance club and choreographing for the medical student talent show, Tachycardia! Lastly, Western offers numerous exciting projects in science and medicine and I'm eager to continue doing research.

Why did you become a Student Ambassador?

I've been fortunate to have had many wonderful mentors and upper-year students who've supported me on my path to medical school. They've answered my questions about life in medical school, eased my anxiety surrounding the application process, helped me achieve my goals, and instilled confidence in my abilities. These experiences have inspired me to pay it forward!

What do you like to do for fun?

Dance has been a significant part of my life. I grew up training in competitive dance, in jazz, tap, ballet, contemporary, hip hop, and lyrical. I still use dance as a way to de-stress and stay active.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

Romanian is first language! My parents immigrated to Canada a few years before I was born, so I often visit my extended family in Romania.

Where is your favourite campus study location?

Weldon! Especially on the weekends when it's very quiet and empty. It’s a perfect spot to get ahead on some lectures.
