About Dr. Maria Mathews
Dr. Maria Mathews holds a Canada Research Chair in Primary Health Care and Health Equity and Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics at Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. Dr. Mathews leads a program of research on primary health care with interconnecting themes of the health workforce; the organization, integration, and delivery of care; and health care in rural communities. Her research has been supported by peer reviewed grants from tri-council, national, provincial, and university funding agencies. Dr. Mathews leads research teams which include distinguished researchers from across Canada, as well as policy makers from provincial health systems and Canadian health professional organizations.
Opportunities and Process
Graduate students
Dr. Mathews supervises students in the Masters and PhD of Epidemiology and Biostatistics (Epidemiology and Biostatistics) as well as the Master of Clinical Science Program through Family Medicine (Master of Clinical Science program)
Students interested in Epidemioloy and Biostatistics should visit the Department website but are also encouraged to contact Dr. Mathews (maria.mathews@schulich.uwo.ca) in advance.
Students interested in MClinSci should apply to the program directly and a supervisor will be assigned after admission.
Post Doctoral Fellows
CURRENTLY RECRUITING: Dr. Mathews, through the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Department of Family Medicine at Western University (London, ON) is seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Health Services Research. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to train with a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Primary Care and develop skills in qualitative and quantitative health services research. Upon completion of training, the candidate will be well-poised to pursue a career in research. The fellowship is open to graduates of a PhD (or equivalent) program in any discipline interested in pursuing health services research (epidemiology, social sciences, health sciences, health policy, health services, etc.).
