Electives for Internal Medicine Residents
To be eligible for elective training, applicants must be currently enrolled in a residency training program and must be eligible for licensure from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). Elective training is short-term training that does not exceed 6 months in duration. Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University’s Gastroenterology program offers residents from other Ontario based schools, provinces and international countries the opportunity to visit for an elective. Specifically, applicants must send a formal email request to the Department of Medicine and indicate the start and end date for their desired elective. The applicant must also provide background information to demonstrate their suitability.

Applicants are required to send the following information via email to the Department of Medicine
- A request letter that includes your anticipated start and end date, date of birth, and home university student number
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- A copy of your Medical Degree (MD)
- Proof of CMPA coverage for Ontario (obtain Membership update by logging in to CMPA)
- CPSO number
- A letter of support from the Program Director of your home university. The letter of support should be addressed to: Chris Watling, Associate Dean Postgraduate Medical Education, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, MSB M103, Western University, London, Ontario, N6A 5C1.
Upon submission of this information a decision will be reached whether applicants request has been approved.
