By celebrating differences and similarities this month, the hope is that people will gain a deeper understanding of each other. Why It's Important to Celebrate DiversityCelebrating diversity is essential as it cultivates an environment of inclusivity, where individuals from various cultural, social, and experiential backgrounds feel valued and understood. By recognizing and celebrating diversity, we acknowledge the richness that each individual brings to the table, fostering a society where different perspectives are embraced and appreciated. Native Land Digital has created an interactive map and app to help map Indigenous territories, treaties, and languages. They strive to create and foster conversations concerning the history of colonialism, Indigenous ways of knowing, and settler-Indigenous relations, utilizing educational resources. Their mission is to develop a platform where Indigenous communities can represent themselves and their histories on their own terms. In doing so, Native Land Digital creates spaces where non-Indigenous people can be invited and challenged to learn more about the lands they inhabit, the history of those lands, and how to actively be part of a better future going forward together. Launch of Black Physicians’ Association of Ontario Remote Hubs across Ontario (Message from the BPAO) – In 2023, the BPAO introduced remote hubs in Ottawa and Sudbury. In 2022, a BPAO member survey showed that almost 70 per cent of respondents self-reported they had experienced burnout in the past year. These remote hubs are crucial as they create a necessary community of support for Black physicians outside of the Greater Toronto Area. In collaboration with medical schools, community health centre (CHC) partners and corporate allies, these hubs can more adequately address needs for culturally appropriate care for Black patients. A remote hub for the London region is set to launch on March 20th, with more details to follow. |

Gender Transformative Health Promotion Gender transformative health promotion focuses on the dual goals of improving health as well as gender equity. It is internationally recognized that gender is among the most influential of the determinants of health and that gender inequities can affect health outcomes and access to health services. Evidence increasingly demonstrates that health care interventions—including health promotion—are more effective if they are designed with gender in mind. This online course, by The Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health, provides an introduction to the key principles and ideas underlying gender transformative health promotion and is designed for a range of audiences concerned with women’s health, including physicians, nurses, social workers, students, midwives, researchers, program managers, and policy makers.
