Surgery
Distributed Education community General Surgery rotations afford residents a unique perspective within the residency training program. Practice outside the Academic Health Centre provides residents exposure to clinical and operative management of cases in a community setting. In the majority of instances, residents will receive one-on-one exposure to a community faculty surgical preceptor, rotations fulfill the General Standards of Accreditation with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in a community clinical setting.
Many Distributed Education surgical faculty are graduates of Western University, members of SWOSA (Southwestern Ontario Surgical Association), and maintain strong academic and professional linkages with the Department of Surgery. Community faculty actively participate in program review, evaluation and in some instances, residency selection interviews.
