Dr. Mark Awuku, Assistant Dean, Faculty & Governmental Affairs
The Windsor Program continues to flourish as we recruit and hire new faculty and provide supports to the new recruits. Faculty members have been very supportive in all aspects of this process. I am now investigating new opportunities to continue to improve and enrich our education program.
Recently the CPD session on Acuity Star took place. Acuity Star is a useful interface for inputting your scholarly work and curriculum vitae in a School-accepted format. I very much recommend this CPD session to every faculty member and found it very useful and user friendly. It is even more important at this time, as the Appointments and Promotions Document is being revised to better serve our distributed faculty. Keep an eye out for future sessions.
I had the good fortune to attend the formal evening gathering of our final year students. It was a pleasure seeing their successful completion of the first leg of their career journeys. Drs. Marjorie Johnson, Shannon Venance and Raphael Cheung were recognized for their teaching excellence by the Hippocratic Council at the event. Please congratulate these teachers when you meet them.
As you may know by now, Dunks for Dialysis - the basketball game between Windsor medical students and the Faculty - took place on March 30. I was called upon to be the coach of the student team and I took a sigh of relief when professional players from the Windsor Express basketball team stepped in as the assistant coaches. The event was a huge success and raised more than $30,000 for the Care for Kidneys Foundation. A huge thank you to Dr. Albert Kadri, head of the kidney program at Windsor Regional Hospital, for making all of this possible.
Please continue to send me your ideas and suggestions in the area of medical education as we continue to build our program. Enjoy the warmer temperatures and the next few months, which will feature convocation and the next round of new residents joining us.
