New accommodations for Windsor Program Learners
Friday, January 18, 2013
Increased growth for the Windsor Program and a change in demographics for learners led to the need to find a new style of accommodations for Windsor learners. Annually, there are approximately 150 residents who come to Windsor as part of their medical education, and more often, they are coming to the city with their spouses, partners and children. While the traditional dorm style, provided thanks to the generosity of the Windsor community, works well for a single person, it is simply not geared to support couples or families.
Fortunately, a solution has been found.
Local business owner Ray Redekopp recently approached the School with an offer to develop the old Medical Arts Building conveniently located across from Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital. The refurbished building will create a new modern, central location providing a range of options under one roof including self-contained dorm style rooms with private bathroom facilities, one to two bedroom self-contained units designed for families, laundry facilities on every floor, controlled access to green space and improved security and parking.
This new facility will allow us to accommodate most of our existing learners without an increase to the existing Windsor Program Housing budget.
The new building will be finished in April 2013 and ready for learners to move in by May.
