Congratulations to Azadeh Jafari, PhD candidate, who shared that she has been selected to receive a Department of Neuroscience Schulich Award of Excellence.
Medical students, Benson Law, Brigida DiMatteo, Deaglan Arnold, and Sinead Osivwemu collaborated with the Centre of Excellence in Rural Health (CERH) research assistants to prepare and plan for Discovery Healthcare Camp, a health-care summer camp facilitated by Schulich medical students for high school students interested in health care careers.
The annual Penuela Lab Awards recipients are selected by the Anatomy and Cell Biology Department Graduate Affairs Committee. Congratulations to the awardees:
- Brent Wakefield, PhD - Keith L. Moore Doctoral Award (Best PhD Thesis and Defence Award)
- Brooke O’Donnell, PhD - Suzanne M. Bernier Publication Award (Best Publication Award)
- Dan Stefan, MSc Student - Undergraduate Honours Module Gold Medal Award (Awarded to a graduate student)
Congratulations Dr. Caroline Hamm, Dr. Lisa Porter and Dr. Mark Vincent for receiving $75,000, $50,000, and $75,000 respectively from Breast Cancer Canada as the 2024 Precision Oncology Grant recipients.
Jamie Seabrook’s, PhD, recent article titled 'Does Dietitian Involvement During Pregnancy Improve Birth Outcomes? A Systematic Review,’ a paper on a dietician’s involvement in low birth weight & preterm infants was published in the Canadian Journal of Dietetic Practice and Research.
Dr. Jane Thornton of Family Medicine and Epidemiology & Biostatistics received the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (CIHR-IMHA) Community Patient Engagement Prize for a recent article, ‘Learning from 'lived expertise': Creating a model for involving patients in physical activity research.’
Jaryd Christie, PhD of the Department of Medical Biophysics was selected to share his perspective on ‘How to Preserve Trust in Science in the Age of AI’ during the 73rd Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting.
Congratulations to Jessica Prodger, PhD, on having her paper, “HIV-1 subtype A1, D, and recombinant proviral genome landscapes during long-term suppressive therapy,” being selected to be featured in the Top 50 Editor's Highlights by Nature Communications.
Kaitlyn Wade, received the CIHR Strategic Master’s Award in Computational Biology and Health Data Sciences. Wade works under the supervision of Pingzhao Hu, PhD, of the Department of Biochemistry.
Congratulations to Kathleen Surry, PhD, on her appointment as the President of the Canadian Organization of Medical Physicists (COMP).
The CMA Awards for Young Leaders recognizes CMA members who demonstrated exemplary dedication, commitment and leadership. Congratulations to Dr. Lotus Alphonsus and Dr. Saman Arfaie for being recipients of the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) Awards for Young Leaders.
Congratulations to Dr. Maude Rancourt, Dr. Srinivas Gopinath, and Dr. Vaibhav Gupta on concluding thoracic fellowships at Schulich and embarking on new journeys.

Saman Maleki, PhD’s Canadian Institutes of Health Research was ranked 3/45 for a Neoadjuvant Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT) plus chemoIO trial in triple-negative breast cancer patients.
Qingping Feng, PhD, along with colleagues Dr. Tianqing Peng, and Zhu-Xu Zhang, PhD, hosted the Academy of Cardiovascular Research Excellence (ACRE) Canada Cardiovascular Conference at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.
