DOCS turns 10
In 2008, the Dental Outreach Community Service (DOCS) program set out to provide much needed dental care to people in the London community, who it provided care that was out of reach for many. Thousands of volunteer hours and patient visits later, we are celebrating a decade of this tremendous commitment to the community.
During the past 10 years, DOCS has:
-
hosted 159 clinics;
-
treated 2,156 patients;
-
partnered with 10 community agencies;
-
been supported by 160 volunteers;
-
worked with 650 fourth-year dental students, and
-
provided more than 11,420 volunteer hours in the community.
During a DOCS clinic on October 23, we had an opportunity to visit a clinic in south London and talk to Dr. Les Kalman, Chair of DOCS, two dentist volunteers and a fourth-year student about their experience.
