New Alpha Kappa Kappa Beta Kappa scholarships and medals

For nearly a century, the Alpha Kappa Kappa Beta Kappa Chapter (AKK-BKK) have been generously supporting students at Western University. This support continued this past spring as AKK-BKK, through the leadership of Dr. John Sangster, gifted their remaining funds establishing three new scholarships at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry. 

A new $2,900 scholarship was introduced to accompany the AKK-BKK Gold Medal award and a new Silver Medal scholarship was created to be awarded with a $2,700 award. The Gold Medal is awarded to the Schulich Medicine student with the highest academic achievement and the Silver Medal is a peer-nominated award for graduating medical students who have demonstrated academic achievement, class leadership and community service. 

Dr. Adriana Cappelletti recipient of the Alpha Kappa Kappa Beta Kappa Scholarship and Gold Medal in Medicine was very honoured.

 “Thank you very much to the Alpha Kappa Kappa Beta Kappa Chapter of London Alumni for your generous donation. As I enter residency and my future practice in Family Medicine, I will continue to work toward providing the best care possible to my patients and to advocating for the health care needs of my community," Dr. Cappelletti said. 

Dr. Jessica Bryce shared the honour as the Alpha Kappa Kappa Beta Kappa Silver Medal recipient. 

“I am grateful for the support I received from Schulich Medicine administration, faculty, and my Class of 2018 to pursue a wide variety of interests in global health, medical education, and other clinical interests,” she said. “While I’m heading to British Columbia for a rural-regional family medicine training program starting in July, I know I’ll always be a Mustang at heart.” 

In honour of the AKK-BKK support a new display was mounted in the display cases in the Medical Sciences Building hallway. The display showcases AKK-BKK artifacts and records from Western Archives. The University Archivist, Anne Daniel, has been instrumental in the creation of the display.
