Celebrating our achievements
We are celebrating the monthly achievements of our faculty, staff, trainees and students. This month we'd like to congratulate Dr. Jatinder Takhar, Dr. Silvia Penuela and MPH students Jyllian Lippman, Safiyya Nazarali, and Jenna Paulson.
Dr. Jatinder Takhar, Associate Dean, Continuing Professional Development (CPD), has been honoured with a 2014 Royal College Accredited CPD Provider Innovation Award . These Awards recognize Accredited CPD Providers for their innovative development and implementation of: educational policies or processes; administrative policies; educational processes, resources or tools. Dr. Takhar will be presented the award at the 6th National CPD Accreditation Conference in Toronto, September 29.
Dr. Silvia Penuela, PhD, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, was recognized at the 6th Annual Latin American Leadership Awards. Dr. Penuela received the Leadership Award in the category of Health Research. The event is held to create awareness of the accomplishments of members of London’s Latino community. Dr. Penuela has been working with Professor Dale Laird, PhD, to identify new treatment targets for melanoma, the deadliest of skin cancers.
MPH students Jyllian Lippman, Safiyya Nazarali, and Jenna Paulson were recently announced as recipients of the Global Opportunities Awards from Western International. The Global Opportunities Awards, a $1000 award sponsored by Western donors, enable Western students to participate in exchanges, study abroad programs, international field courses, summer programs, international service learning, field research and more. Our three award recipients are completing their placements at the following locations: PAHO Barbados; Makerere University, School of Public Health in Uganda; and Institute of Public Health, Bangalore, India, respectively.
