The $2 million Suite puts Schulich Dentistry at the forefront of dental education, featuring two new operating rooms and six recovery bays. The School will be able to offer dental students more hands-on clinical experience, offer more specialized support for patients with complicated requirements and continue its commitment to exemplary care.
The Department of Anesthesia & Perioperative Medicine will provide operations support.
The department's chair/chief, Dr. Davy Cheng, praised this collaborative approach to patient care. "We are honoured and are committed to support this state-of-the-art dental surgery and general anesthesia suite in delivering out-patient paediatric dental care in a patient-centered and family friendly facility," he expressed.
The opening was also a celebratory moment for Maria Sinosec, the mother of a 34-year-old with special needs. "The first thing I noticed is the doors are wider so you can roll the wheelchair right in," she said. "That might seem insignificant, but it's not insignificant to parents or caregivers."
Dr. Harinder Sandhu, vice-dean and director of Schulich Dentistry echoed this enthusiasm. "This facility will enable us to provide oral surgery and a wide spectrum of dental procedures for special needs, paediatric and geriatric patients," he said.
