Reliving Reunion Weekend 2016
During the week of Reunion Weekend 2016, we welcomed you back to campus to unlock the past and focus on passion, purpose, professionalism and potential — key attributes that have driven Schulich Medicine & Dentistry alumni to success. It was a fabulous weekend of celebration and education.
Leading up to the weekend, the Class of 2011 celebrated their five-year reunion together over food, fun and laughter. Many brought out their families to enjoy the weather together. The Class closed off their celebrations with a reunion reception, and many posed for photos in silly costumes. Enjoy a collection of photos below from the Class of 2011's reunion events. We kicked off the weekend with a cross-faculty panel discussion on the topic of medical assistance in dying, featuring Dr. Jeff Blackmer, MD'95, Vice President, Medical Professionalism, Canadian Medical Association, as the keynote lecturer. Hundreds of community members came out to gain insight into the controversial topic from an alumnus who is leading the way through the legislation.
On Saturday morning, alumni, faculty, staff and community members came together for a community lecture featuring research focused on topics related to health and issues that have recently made headlines, including Zika virus, marijuana and youth mental health, and drug safety.
Following the Community Lecture, several alumni, including a large group from the Class of 1996, attended the Dean's Distinguished Lecture, featuring the 2016 Dean's Distinguished Lecturer Award Recipient, Dr. Michael Myers, MD'66. Dr. Myers delivered a lecture on physician health and suicide. After a standing ovation from the audience, Dr. Myers spent time answering thoughtful questions from engaged audience members.
Saturday evening began with a celebration of our golden alumni and the Dentistry Alumni Cocktail Party. Following the reception, alumni, faculty, staff and learners attended The Dean's Gala — our annual black-tie event featuring dinner, live music and dancing. Between food, dancing and laughter, we honoured the recipients of our 2016 Alumni of Distinction Awards.
