David McCarty
David McCarty, MB, BCh, MRCP (UK), FRCPC
Dr. David McCarty is an Associate Professor in the Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Western University.
Dr. McCarty undertook postgraduate training in internal medicine and cardiology in the United Kingdom. He completed a clinical and research fellowship in advanced echocardiography at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, prior to coming to Western.
Dr. McCarty is a clinical cardiologist with particular interest in the care of patients with valvular heart disease and cardiomyopathy. His subspecialty discipline is echocardiography, encompassing transthoracic, transesophageal, contrast and stress echocardiography. He is experienced with novel modalities of echocardiography, including tissue Doppler imaging, speckle tracking and 3D echocardiography.
Dr. McCarty is actively involved in capacity building for academic cardiology and cardiovascular service delivery in developing countries. He undertakes regular trips to support the local training of medical students, physicians and allied health professionals in Africa.
