Admission Requirements

**Note: The Department cannot pre-evaluate copies of transcripts to ascertain if you should apply to our program. A complete application must be submitted for review.

Degree Requirements for Entry to the MSc Program:

During the final two years of your undergraduate program, a minimum academic average of B+ (78%) as calculated by the Department is required.

Prior to enrollment, an Honours degree (4 year degree) with or without a research project is required in one of Biochemistry, Biology, Genetics, Chemistry, Cell Biology, Microbiology, or Physiology OR an equivalent from an accredited University.

We will also consider applications from students who do not have a degree as listed above but who do have one or more of the following:

**Note: Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance to the program as space is limited and competitive.

Requirements for Entry to the PhD Program:

Prior to enrollment applicant need a Master's degree or its equivalent from an accredited University in Biochemistry, Biology, Genetics, Chemistry, Cell Biology, Microbiology, or Physiology OR a degree approved by the Applications Review Committee.

Direct Entry to PhD from a Bachelor's Program:

In addition to the requirements for entry to the MSc program, applications for direct entry to the PhD program must have a minimum academic average of 85%. Research experience would be an asset, but is not a requirement. Applicants wishing to be considered for direct entry should state this intent in a covering letter attached to their application.
