Dr. Tamara Van Hooren
I am pleased to announce that Dr. Tamara Van Hooren has been appointed as the Associate Dean, Post Graduate Medical Education (PGME) at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, effective January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2029.
Dr. Van Hooren received her BSc in Biology at Western University in 2001, and her MD at the University of Ottawa in 2005. She completed her paediatric residency training at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa. In 2011, she joined Western University and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Paediatrics.
Dr. Van Hooren is the Co-Deputy Chair Education, the Department of Paediatrics and the outgoing Program Director for the Paediatric Post Graduate Education at the Schulich Medicine & Dentistry. She is the recipient of the Certificate of Merit Award and the Schulich Excellence in Education Awards.
Deeply involved in Program Accreditation at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry and with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Dr. Van Hooren thrives in an educational community dedicated to excellence. She believes that effective Accreditation Standards empower both programs and learners to succeed. Beyond checklist compliance, she views these standards as essential to accountability — for both learners and the profession. When embraced as a roadmap to excellence, accreditation enables institutions to truly shine.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Van Hooren on her appointment. I am also deeply thankful to Dr. Lois Champion, who has provided excellent leadership as the Associate Dean, Post Graduate Medical Education since 2020.
