Leadership Announcement: Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
Dr. Keith Sequeira
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Keith Sequeira has been appointed to the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation as:
- Chair - Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University;
- Physician Department Head - London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC); and
- Chief - St. Joseph’s Health Care London (St. Joseph’s).
The appointment is effective March 1, 2024, to February 28, 2029, at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, and January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2028, at LHSC and St. Joseph’s.
After receiving his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Toronto in 1994, Dr. Sequeira completed his residency training in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the Albany Medical Center in 1998, followed by a fellowship in Electrodiagnostic and Sports Medicine at Michigan State University.
Dr. Sequeira joined the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PMR) at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry in 1999, where he is currently an Associate Professor.
As the past Medical Director of the Acquired Brain and Spinal Cord Injury rehabilitation programs at St. Joseph’s Parkwood Institute, Dr. Sequeira ran spasticity, brain and spinal cord injury clinics. Dr. Sequeira is also the past Residency Program Director of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Western, a program that he designed and founded in 2005. Dr. Sequeira functions as the Worker Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) Champion at Western, working to integrate WSIB education into medical school curriculum. He also is the Medical Director of the WSIB Brain Injury Specialty Clinic in London.
Dr. Sequeira has been the co-Chair of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Specialty Examination in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation since 2020 and has been an examiner on this board since 2017. Dr. Sequeira was the recipient of the St. Joseph’s Medical Advisory Committee Award of Excellence (2022), St. Joseph’s Professional Staff Award of Excellence (2021), and Schulich Medicine & Dentistry’s Dean’s Award of Excellence for Undergraduate Medical Education (2009).
Since 2020, Dr. Sequeira and Dr. Robert Teasell have worked together to provide exceptional leadership for the Department of PMR while serving as interim Co-Chairs/Physician Department Heads/Chiefs. We greatly appreciate their dedication to the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation program.
