Announcement: Dr. Mark Goldszmidt appointed Acting Director of the Centre for Education Research & Innovation (CERI)

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Mark Goldszmidt has been appointed Acting Director of the Centre for Education Research & Innovation (CERI) at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, effective June 1, 2024, to May 31, 2025.

Dr. Goldszmidt's distinguished career in medical education and research makes him an exceptional choice for this role. He received his MDCM from McGill University in 1996, completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Queen’s University in 1999, and became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2000. Dr. Goldszmidt’s commitment to advancing medical education is further evidenced by his pursuit of advanced degrees focused on health education. He earned a Master's in Health Professions Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2004 and a PhD from the School of Health Professions Education, Maastricht University in 2015.

Dr. Goldszmidt was one of the key founders of CERI and served as its Associate Director during its formative decade. Since its inception, he has led CERI’s collaboration on a Master of Health Professions Education with the University of British Columbia and Maastricht University.  In recognition of his leadership in medical education, Dr. Goldszmidt received the prestigious 3M National Teaching Fellowship from the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education in 2013. This year, Dr. Goldszmidt was also honoured with the prestigious Early Career Medical Educators (ECME) Award, recognizing his significant contributions to the advancement of early career medical educators through advocacy and mentorship. 

In his new leadership role, Dr. Goldszmidt envisions CERI as a hub for those passionate about engaging in educational scholarship. He is eager to mentor the next generation of education scholars and foster a thriving community of practice in Education Research and Innovation. Over the next year, he aims to revitalize CERI’s engagement and support for education scholars at Schulich. He is also keen to explore collaborative opportunities between CERI and those involved in quality improvement (QI) initiatives.
