Announcement: Dr. Craig Campbell named the inaugural Children’s Health Foundation Chair in Paediatrics Research

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Craig Campbell, MD, MSc, FRCPC, has been named the inaugural Children’s Health Foundation Chair in Paediatrics Research

Dr. Campbell currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Paediatrics at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, the Department Head of Paediatrics at Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), and the Chief of the Department of Paediatrics at St. Joseph’s Health Care London. 

The new $3-million endowed Children’s Health Foundation Chair was made possible by a $1.5-miilion donation by Children’s Health Foundation, matched by Western University. The research Chair will help build research capacity and provide leadership between the hospital and the university to forge discoveries in children’s health.  

Dr. Campbell is a Professor in the Department of Paediatrics and holds cross-appointments in the Departments of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and Clinical Neurological Sciences at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry. After completing his training in paediatrics, neurology and epidemiology at the University of Ottawa, Dr. Campbell joined the Department of Paediatrics at Schulich in 2003. Dr. Campbell is also the head of the neuromuscular clinic and electromyography (EMG) service at Children’s Hospital at LHSC.  

Dr. Campbell is a scientist at the Child Health Research Institute (CHRI). His research interests include studying outcomes of novel therapeutics for neuromuscular disease in children. He has led several national and international initiatives to develop, implement and harmonize rare disease real-world registries. In 2011 and 2015, Dr. Campbell was awarded the George Karpati Award for Researcher of the Year by Muscular Dystrophy Canada, and in 2019 he was named as the CHRI Scientist of the Year. 

Under the leadership of Dr. Campbell as the inaugural Children’s Health Foundation Chair in Paediatrics, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and our health-care partners are well-positioned to foster groundbreaking research and discoveries in children’s health.
