Announcement: Dr. Shawn Steele appointed as Assistant Dean, Learner Experience (Dentistry)
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Shawn Steele has been appointed as Assistant Dean, Learner Experience (Dentistry), at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University effective August 1, 2023, to July 31, 2028.
In this role, Dr. Steele will engage with, assist and support the well-being of Dentistry learners through the development of a comprehensive wellness curriculum and maintaining a close working relationship with the Learner Experience office and relevant committees.
Dr. Steele graduated from Western University with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2005 and following graduation, he entered into private practice and practice ownership. While continuing to practice dentistry, Dr. Steele earned a Juris Doctor degree from Western Law and a Master of Education degree from Memorial University.
His focus is on health law, health professional regulation, and continuing education and professional development. He also completed a certificate in Health Profession Regulation from Osgoode Hall Law School and has lectured and written on this topic.
Dr. Steele has served as the interim City-wide Chief of Dentistry for London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London, as well as the Site-Chief of Dentistry for Parkwood Institute and Southwest Centre for Forensic Mental Health Care.
Dr. Steele has held, and continues to hold, a number of roles on advisory committees locally and provincially, including those with the Ontario Dental Association and American College of Dentists.
He is currently an Assistant Professor at Schulich Dentistry, focusing on the topics of practice administration, professionalism and ethics, and legal and regulatory matters. He also maintains a private practice and works as a Dental Risk Manager.
