In Memoriam: Dr. Martin Hollenberg
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of former Dean of Schulich Medicine & Dentistry Dr. Martin Hollenberg.
Hollenberg died peacefully at Vancouver General Hospital on Dec. 17, 2021 at the age of 87.
Hollenberg served as the School’s Dean from 1978 to 1985.
He later became Dean of the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Medicine in 1990.
A renowned doctor, researcher and leader, Hollenberg spearheaded the creation of world class research centres in London, Ont. and Vancouver, B.C. His work focused on neuroscience and developmental biology, and his contributions led to the development of novel therapeutics for diseases including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and MS.
At his family’s request, donations can be made to Doctors Without Borders in Hollenberg’s honour.
