Honours: Three named Faculty Scholars
Western University today announced the selection of 11 Faculty Scholars to recognize their significant achievements in teaching or research.
The recipients are considered all-around scholars and will hold the title of Faculty Scholar for two years and receive $7,000 each year for scholarly activities.
Congratulations to the recipients from Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, Alison Allan, PhD, Shelley McKellar, PhD, and Dr. David Palma.
Allan is the Chair of the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry. Her research interests lie in the study of molecular mechanisms that influence normal cellular growth, tumor development, and cancer progression with a focus on cancer metastasis and translational research.
Cross-appointed in the Faculty of Social Science and Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, McKellar holds the Hannah Chair in the History of Medicine. Her research focuses on the history of medicine and disease, with a special interest in the history of medical technology, instruments and devices, the history of surgery, and medical biography. She is the author of three books and teaches at both Schulich Medicine and in the Department of History.
Dr. David Palma is a Radiation Oncologist at the London Health Sciences Centre and an assistant professor at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry. He specializes in research focusing on translational imaging science, including evaluating new imaging and radiotherapy technologies in the pre-clinical and clinical setting.
