Dr. Graham King is appointed Site Chief of Surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Graham King as the Site Chief, St. Joseph's Hospital, Department of Surgery, effective November 1, 2014 for a three year term.

Dr. King was appointed as the Medical Director of the Roth McFarlane Hand and Upper Limb Centre in July 2014. We are delighted to have such a strong leader and administrator assume the responsibilities of Site Chief of Surgery for St. Joseph's Hospital. Dr. King succeeds Dr. Denstedt, who has served in this role since Dr. Roth's unexpected passing in February 2013. Dr. King will be working closely with the clinical services leaders for St. Joseph's Hospital, will co-chair the Acute and Ambulatory Leadership Council along with Dr. Rob McFadden, Site Chief, Medicine and Karen Perkin, and will join the Department of Surgery Executive Committee.

Dr. King graduated from medical school at the University of British Columbia followed by residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Toronto. He then completed a fellowship in Hand and Upper Limb Extremity Surgery and a Master of Science degree at the University of Calgary as well as a clinical and research fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. Dr. King was recruited as an Assistant Professor to the Department of Surgery by Dr. Roth in 1992. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1998 and full Professor in 2002.

Dr. King established the Bioengineering Laboratory early in his career at Western and has built a strong partnership with the Department of Medical Biophysics in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at Western. The Bioengineering Laboratory has successfully competed for extensive peer-reviewed funding from CIHR, CAS, CAN and NSERC as well as numerous industry collaborations. Dr. King is internationally known for his research in biomechanics of the wrist and elbow as well as image-guided surgery. He has published nearly 225 peer reviewed journal articles and over 50 book chapters. He has served as guest professor in countries around the globe and as President of the Canadian Orthopaedic Research Society. Dr. King was awarded the Canadian Orthopaedic Association Award of Merit in 2013, which is their highest honour. He has also received the Premier's Research Excellence Award from the Government of Ontario and the J. Edouard Samson Research Award from the Canadian Orthopaedic Research Society.
