About the McLachin Professorship
Dr. Angus Duncan McLachlin (October 4, 1908 - September 29, 1987) was Professor of Surgery and Head of the Department of Surgery at the University of Western Ontario from 1945 to 1974 and continued as a member of the Department until his retirement in 1979. He was a man of extraordinary and exceptional talents, a devotee to his ideals, an individual of profound integrity, and above all an outstanding educator. His ultimate strength as an educator was his approach to training residents in the Surgical Training Program, a program he organized after recognizing the need for General Surgeons in the Southwestern Ontario hospitals. Dr. McLachlinʼs method of teaching earned him the utmost respect from all of his residents.
A professorship was sponsored in his name, with the goal of fostering surgical education at the undergraduate and postgraduate level and contributing to continuing professional development in the surgical community of Southwestern Ontario.
