Speaker bio: 

Susan-Moffatt-Bruce_web.jpegSusan D. Moffatt-Bruce, MD, PhD, MBA, FACS, FRCSC, became the new CEO of the Royal College on January 6, 2020. She joins the Royal College from the Ohio State University (OSU) Wexner Medical Center University Hospital where she served as executive director for two years. Prior to that role, she was the OSU Wexner Medical Center’s inaugural chief quality and patient safety officer. She is a professor of surgery and biomedical informatics at OSU.

After completing her undergraduate degree at McGill University, she attended medical school at Dalhousie University. During her General Surgery residency at Dalhousie University, Dr. Moffatt-Bruce undertook a PhD in Transplant Immunology at the University of Cambridge, England. She went on to complete her fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford University, California. She has also trained at Intermountain Healthcare, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and Harvard School of Public Health.

A highly-regarded thoracic surgeon and funded research scientist, Dr. Moffatt-Bruce holds leadership positions in the American Association of Thoracic Surgery, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the National Quality Forum and America’s Essential Hospital.

In addition to medical expertise, Dr. Moffatt-Bruce earned her Masters of Business Operational Excellence and her Executive Masters of Business Administration at the Fisher College of Business at the Ohio State University. Dr. Moffatt-Bruce’s passion for quality and patient safety, strengthened by an extensive background in business administration, has culminated in more than a decade’s work in continuous improvement. She holds leadership positions in numerous national and international associations and was a member of the Royal College’s Fellowship Affairs Committee.
