Internet Based Mindfulness Cognitive Therapy
Implementation of inpatient internet delivered mindfulness based cognitive behaviour therapy education program for chronic pain self-management among those with spinal cord injury.
Current, inpatient programs provide knowledge acquisition for managing pain and emotional wellbeing but lack focus on problem solving skill development for self-management. Programs that develop critical thinking skills to effectively cope with challenges at discharge are warranted. A brief internet delivered mindfulness cognitive behavior therapy program (iMCBT) developed through a participatory action process with Spinal Cord Injury Ontario was developed for persons with SCI.
We are currently exploring the feasibility and acceptability of an iMCBT program in an inpatient SCI rehabilitation setting. The study will also evaluate the barriers and facilitators of program implementation in order to develop guidelines for adoption in other rehabilitation facilities across Canada. This study is in collaboration with Spinal Cord Injury Ontario.
