Pannexins in Osteoarthritis

PX3OA

Osteoarthritis is the leading cause of disability worldwide. While historically the consensus has been that osteoarthritis is a 'wear and tear disease', caused by overuse, it is now known that cellular processes play a role in driving tissue degradation. recently, our lab has found that the presence of pannexin 3 is increased in osteoarthritic cartilage in both rodent and human tissue. Our lab subsequently found that Pannexin 3 knockout mice show protection from surgically induced osteoarthritis.
